If you are planning to visit Florence, you must also go to Pisa because Pisa is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Italy. Those who have already visited Florence can easily visit Pisa from there, as it is only 1 hour away. The train ticket costs approximately 10 euros. Here are the things you should do:

The Piazza dei Miracoli

The Piazza dei Miracoli, also known as the Square of Miracles, is recognized as one of the most significant architectural complexes in the world. This UNESCO World Heritage site includes four major religious edifices: the Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta (Duomo di Pisa), the Baptistery, the Campanile (better known as the Leaning Tower of Pisa), and the Camposanto Monumentale.

The Leaning Tower of Pisa is the main attraction, and that’s why people come to Pisa. It’s famous because of its unintended tilt. Constructed over nearly 200 years, beginning in 1173, the tower began leaning during its construction due to unstable foundation soil. Despite numerous efforts to correct its tilt, the tower remains one of the most recognizable architectural structures in the world. You can even climb 300 steps to the top of the tower to catch a view of Pisa, but you have to pay 27 EUR for a ticket.

Piazza dei Cavalieri

It is also known as Knights’ Square. You can easily go there, as it is approximately 600m from the tower. Once an important part of Pisa, because it was a political center in medieval times. Today, Piazza dei Cavalieri is primarily used as a cultural and educational hub.

Take a walk along the Arno River

If you have enough time, then I suggest taking a walk along the Arno River, especially in the evening. You will get a different feeling. This is the same river that runs through Florence, and the view is amazing.

Santa Maria della Spina Church

The church is right next to the Arno River. This church was built in the 13th century, specifically in 1230. If you go there, take a look.

Borgo Stretto

This is one of Pisa’s most popular shopping streets. Those who intend to shop can shop here. Take a walk to see the colorful buildings.

Tips Before Grabbing a Meal: Try to stay away from restaurants located right by the Leaning Tower of Pisa because the prices are so high. For gelato, you can go to Gelateria De’ Coltelli.

Where to stay

If you want to stay, I suggest you stay in Hotel Casa San Tommaso. The places are near the hotel.
